A guide to custom furniture

At In The Thick Of It, we love bringing your custom designs to life - whether it be altering an exisiting design from our range in a small way or designing something from scratch.

Whether it’s a timber vanity with just the right amount of storage, a dining table big enough to host loud Sunday lunches, built in shelving or a coffee table, we work with you to create just what you’re looking for.

It all starts with you bringing us a sketch, a screenshot, or even just a description of what you’re after. We’ll then work with you to shape what you want and draw it up as a sketch for your approval before we start making it. If you’re customising a vanity it’s helpful to know where your plumbing will be going to ensure everything will fit properly once installed.

All of our pieces are handcrafted in Melbourne using recycled Messmate — a timber we love for its warmth, character, and distinctly Australian feel. We can also source other timbers if your design requires such as Tasmanian Oak, American Oak and Blackbutt.
